The History of Silver.

This wondrous material was first extracted from the earth in quantities around 4000 B.C.. While the first recorded mining of silver comes from Turkey it was Greece, Crete and Near East that first began to craft and consume this resource. From this time silver began it's long journey into today as a mythical, religious, industrial and artistic medium. While available in relatively limited supply it has maintain its self as the least expensive precious metal. Its large-scale mining began around the 1500's AD and continues today around the world. It can be found in Mexico, Bolivia, Russia, United States, Peru, Germany, Hungary, Canada, Australia and several other countries.

The meaning of silver

Deep into recorded history silver has been revered as a sacred metal. The Egyptians considered silver the perfect metal. In ancient times many civilizations considered silver even more precious then gold. Even by today's standard silver lends it self to a magical and earthy symbolism. It has an engrained reputation in fantasy for slaying werewolves, killing dragons, and otherwise warding off our deepest nightmares

Silver and it's service to society.

You can find silver and it's uses in every aspect of daily life. You will find it your kitchen in the form of eating utensils. It is used in the manufacturing of the computer you are now using. Photography and film as we know it today would not exist if not for the discovery of silver. Silver is fundamental to high-end optics and lasers. Some even boast it's medicinal properties as a body purifier. Then there is jewelry where its application is most widely recognized for its beauty and timeless expression of art.

Types of silver.

While silver in it's self is an atomic element and therefore only one true silver can exist it is labeled under several types of alloys. The most common type of silver is Sterling Silver which is a mixture of silver and copper.The Sterling Silver alloy roots stem from Britian and it's need for adoption and standardization of it's currency. When people talk about being allergic to silver it is almost always the copper found in Sterling Silver that is the culprit. Another type of silver is Fine Silver .999.This type is the purest form readily available. It tarnishes much slower then Sterling because of its lack of copper but is not a strong. The newest form of silver alloy is Argentium Sterling Silver which is an alloy of silver and germanium. This silver can be annealed to twice the strength of sterling and is tarnish resistant.It's brilliant white color and working characteristics poise it to be a new standard for silver and all of it's uses.
